Re: Linux music as a major player...
Linux Mint have an ideas section on their website where anyone can propose an idea. Others can comment on the idea and upvote or downvote it. Clem and the other Mint developers read all the ideas from what I can gather. I have drafted an idea. I've tried to keep it short and to the point. Would appr...

Re: Linux music as a major player...
I've noticed that Linux Mint is getting $10,000 worth of donations a month. http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2669 Perhaps we should ask Clem (Mint Project leader) what his secret is. Dave Phillips interviewed Paul Davis a few years ago and there was one thing Paul said that really struck me. "If I ...

Is there a KXStudio Debian ISO?
On the KXStudio website you can download "KXStudio 14.04 live dvd" which is based on Ubuntu. I cannot see a Debian based ISO available for download. Is there one? If not, are there any plans to have one in future? Thanks.

Re: Can't Find My Way Home
Nice one Glen. It's frightening to think how good you might be at the guitar if you didn't spend so much time on your computer. Seriously though, I like it. I'd like to hear you do a slow blues where you can stretch it out a bit on the guitar solos. "Stormy Monday" or something l...

Re: Latest NVIDIA Linux drivers up to 20% faster than Window
Yes, there have been some big name games Civ 5, EU 4, Metro Last Light coming to Linux, but will that be enough? There are some gamers who will not even contemplate a platform that Call of Duty does not run on. Games like CoD and The Elder Scrolls have almost religious followings. Bethesda have show...

Re: Latest NVIDIA Linux drivers up to 20% faster than Window
Don't want to sound negative - it is nice that driver performance is improving but here is what the problem is: Can you play Skyrim on Linux? No Can you play Batman Arkham City on Linux? No Can you play Call of Duty Ghosts on Linux? No Can you play Bioshock Infinite on Linux? No Can you play Tomb Ra...

KDE 5
What is the plan for KXStudio moving to KDE 5?
I remember when KDE 4 came out and I think its fair to say that the transition from KDE 3 to KDE 4 was problematical for many folks.
Also, what advantages will KDE 5 provide to the end user over KDE 4?
Thanks.

Re: Linux music as a major player...
Interesting article about the difficulties of funding Linux apps - although the article is about the GIMP it could just as well apply to Ardour. http://prokoudine.info/blog/2011/02/why-gimp-and-inkscape-are-not-sponsored-by-linux-vendors/ I did not realise that Mark Shuttleworth had offered $30,000 ...

Re: Moving to Debian
Just out of curiosity why do folks use the Liquorix kernel?
Looking at the benchmarks on the Phoronix site there doesn't seem to be much difference between the Liquorix kernel and the standard kernel.
Is Liquorix preferable to installing the linux-image-rt-amd64 package?

As Paul is just an ordinary individual, he does not have bank accounts in all different countries You only need one bitcoin address... easy to set up, anyone can do it - https://electrum.org/ Thanks for that diizy. Re: Linux music as a major player...
I don't think they should stop charging for binaries. Compiling it is a service (though one users are accustomed to being a free service). Theoretically Paul could submit a working ardour binary for the ubuntu store, couldn't he? Steam might be a good idea, but it might be another thing that Paul w...

Re: Linux music as a major player...
Another thing I think needs to be mentioned is that there have been people who have wished to donate to Ardour but have not done so because they are either unable or unwilling to use Paypal. I think it is fair to say that Paypal has been a controversial topic in the Ardour community - lets just leav...

Re: Linux music as a major player...
ardour already charges for binaries on their website. if you don't donate when downloading, you'll get a restricted demo version. am I wrong? Yeah, I'm aware they already charge if you download from the website - I was asking should they continue to do so or is there a better way of raising money? ...

Re: Linux music as a major player...
This thread was (I thought) moving towards something actionable, which would improve the state of affairs of linux audio and specifically ardour. I'm beginning to feel like all forums really don't get you much more than pages of rhetoric. :\ Don't despair. On the plus side it is nice to see how peo...
