Re: The 9th Chapter of John

Thanks guys! I appreciate the comments. As far as the drums there couldn't be a better genre of music to hide the lack of a full drum kit and it just adds to the classic 70's period of Prog vibe in my opinion. Hah, yeah, that's kind of how I feel. LIstening to a lot of old prog it's kind of stunning...

The 9th Chapter of John

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've been back. Been spending the past few months building guitar pedals and working on a coding book, but I managed to finish off another humongous prog rock piece I've been working on since the pandemic hit. This one is kind of rock-opera-ish (my wife says it ...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!

Recent kernels are patched for security vulnerabilities and possibly other bugs. That's the main reason not to use old kernels. I run a 12 YO Core2Duo system on Debian unstable which currently has 5.9 kernel. Runs nicely. I get that, though I'm not too worried about kernel exploits on my dedicated ...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!

Is it possible to install Nvidia on this kernel or do I need a different one? The default realtime kernel doesn't support building nvidia driver modules. Liquorix kernel is a good low-latency alternative for which nvidia should build fine as long as the driver version is compatible ie. the very lat...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!

I installed the new version tonight, but I can't seem to get the Nvidia driver installed. During DKMS compilation, it gives me an error that my kernel source isn't right, and I need to run 'make oldconfig && make prepare' to fix it. I tried this and the first command fails with "can't f...

Nice tunes, I like the dry, clean sound of it. I really liked Edgar and the Fog and Just missed 7th Heaven.

Re: Why does giving your music as a gift feel awkward? Should it?

It's more than likely that your friends and family don't like your music*, so unless you do something specially for them in a way you know they'd like then it's kind of a bad present. Unless you're famous enough that you can autograph it and it'll be worth something on ebay  This is probably ...

Why does giving your music as a gift feel awkward? Should it?

As the holidays approach, I'm thinking about gifts and so forth, so this just kind of came to mind. My wife is amazing at sewing. She makes clothes, quilts, dolls, hats, you name it. Every year about this time she's sewing furiously creating gifts for family and friends, and every year people love t...

Re: Searching for 2 channel USB Audio Interfaces

I'll second the recommendation to go used. There haven't been major advances in audio interfaces for several years, if you get a 4-5 year old interface you'll save a lot and not miss out on anything significant.

UMC22's can be had for 50-80 USD on reverb.com.

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!

Was one laptop UEFI and one not? I'm not 100% sure how bootable we can expect the 32bit ISO is on newer UEFI stuff. It boots on 2 laptops here, one with an early implementation of UEFI and the other with legacy boot but it doesn't boot on my 1 year old Threadripper Desktop but the 64bit version doe...

Re: Are you a 'fan' of the music you create ?

Sometimes. There are songs I've done I like, and others that didn't age well. In both cases, I need some distance from the recording process before I can appreciate them; otherwise I'm critiquing the mix & performance.

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!

Yes 32bit ISO demo/demo, it's not Auto Login, that info should be on the website...? Yeah, that was on the website, it just didn't work on the laptop I was using for some strange reason. OR it did, and for some reason the desktop session failed to launch. I tried it on a different laptop and it wor...
