Do you find it hard to work on more than one recording at a time?

When I work on doing a recording of a song, it's usually a process over several weeks, and I find during that time period that the song takes over my brain. I find it impossible to work on multiple songs in parallel, it's like as soon as one song takes over my brain I find the other one repulsive to...

Re: Guitarix lv2 Plugin doesn't open GUI

This was one of the reasons I switched to Manjaro and never looked back I can understand that; I'm actually switching back from using Arch for a few years, because I just got tired of the constant updates and changes that I had to deal with. Now I'm remembering why I left debian-based distros on my...

Re: Guitarix lv2 Plugin doesn't open GUI

I downloaded the source for guitarix from sourceforge and followed the README instructions to install. What tripped me up was that it uses "waf" as a build tool, and that has been removed from Debian because the maintainers and Debian packaging team didn't get along. So I thought I was not going to ...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Release Candidate Uploaded!

Yep.. right-click on the Panel Panel--->Panel preferences--->Go wild! I'd hate to lose Thunar with all the Custom Action Goodies but you do you.. :D I just read on the custom actions, that's worth keeping XFCE for. I don't really hate XFCE, it's just always kinda meh to me. Meh... The Conky is new....

Re: Guitarix lv2 Plugin doesn't open GUI

Did you ever find a solution on this? I'm dealing with the same issue, and trying to get guitarix 0.4x seems impossible. Can't backport the testing version because of boost dependencies, can't compile from SF sources because of waf, no backports available. EDIT: nvm, I"m an idiot. waf was bundled wi...

Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

Fair enough. I'm not settled on this current install yet, but it would be nice to have an official version.

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Release Candidate Uploaded!

Hi GMaq, I've been rebuilding my DAW the last few days using the current AVLinux, so I thought I'd give this a shot (at least live) and give you some feedback. Couple of disclaimers first, so you know where I'm coming from: - I've been using Linux a looooong time, so naturally I have some well-estab...

Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

Hey, now that I have that worked out, what's the best way to get Ardour6 on AVLinux? I tried doing a flatpak, but it can't connect to Jack. Should I just compile it?

Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

Heavens be praised, lads; I found the problem. While trying random things to fix the problem, I stumbled upon the fact that unplugging the charger makes the XRUNs (and audible glitching) stop. Smooth and clear sailing all the way. Immediately when plugging in the charger, they start again. Unfortuna...

Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

Last time I've had trouble like this because of a mobo upgrade was relate to Hyper-treading. I was forced to build a kernel with Hyper-treading switch off. Since then I've no problem any more, except that I need to build my kernels by myself. Oh forget to mention that I also disable interrupts for ...

Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

I pretty much disabled everything I could disable: wifi, nic, bluetooth, WOL, USB wake, even the optical bay. Only thing I left enabled was external USB (since that's required for my audio interface). I was really hoping it was just WiFi, but that doesn't seem to be it. I kind of think the USB imple...

Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

Do the glitches happen when you're not using jack? I didn't think to try that, so I loaded up a file in audacity using ALSA straight to the audio interface. I get a glitch about every 12 seconds consistently. I kept an eye on audacity's output, as well as the system logs (kern.log, daemon.log, sysl...

Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

So I also tried a realtime kernel tonight. No difference. What it did help me realize is that this laptop has an Nvidia graphics chip, which means not only that realtime doesn't work out so well anyway, but also that it may just be the GPU locking up the system periodically. That might explain why t...

Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

On the old system, I was running 128/2 @ 44.1 and getting about 6ms of latency. On this system, I've had to back it off to 512/4 to get a reasonably low number of xruns, and the latency is horrid. I haven't messed with any of the other settings. I can't figure out why this system is so crappy by com...

Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

So, I've been having these Ardour crashes on my arch/Core2Duo system, and a newer laptop (i5) became available and I decided to upgrade. First, I just swapped out the HDD so I could just have the same install on newer hardware. The crashes seemed to have stopped, but I was getting Xruns with the exa...
