Notation editor that supports piano tabs?

Single note instrument player trying to learn keyboard/piano... I am not adept at reading clusters of notes (or the base clef). Having to do so slows down my piano playing as I try to process the notes. Therefore, I am looking for a notation editor that can create piano tabs: https://www.wikihow.com...

Cool. Thanks for that. QjackCtl worked well for linking my Korg microKEY 61 to Qsynth.

It was also nice that you reminded me about pavucontrol, which I installed.

Re: No sound VMPK and KDE Neon (Ubuntu 18.04)

I removed the version of VMPK that Ubuntu ships with and downloaded the newest version, that now is distributed as an AppImage file, on the developer's suggestion: "Yes, the key is between the parentheses. Ubuntu and Debian derived Linux distros ship ancient and obsolete versions of many progra...

Thanks for the reply. VMPK is in the repository and Jack, QjackCtl (which I am using), Qsynth plus soundfont get installed as dependencies.

No sound VMPK and KDE Neon (Ubuntu 18.04)

I am trying to wade my way back into Linux after having spent some time with Win 7 and 8. On Windows, I use a program called Midiculous for practicing piano / keyboard without the need for starting a full DAW every time that I want to use a MIDI keyboard. The closest thing that I have found in the L...

Re: Ableton Live 10 + Launchpads Pro + Launchpad Mini MK2.

You have nothing in the session view, if you try to play that there is nothing to play. The clips you are able to play are in arrange view. Drag them to the icons on the top right and you will be able to place them in the session view. Then you will be able to trigger them as you are expecting. You...

Re: Ableton Live 10 + Launchpads Pro + Launchpad Mini MK2.

OK, so here is what Ableton Live 10 looks like when I have loaded a saved "live set" with my Launchpad Pro (the same problem exists with the Launchpad Mini): 2018-07-11 08_43_02-song_1- Ableton Live 10 Suite.png 2018-07-11 08_41_51-song_1 [song_1] - Ableton Live 10 Suite.png Again, this is...

Re: Ableton Live 10 + Launchpads Pro + Launchpad Mini MK2.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just to clarify, I am using Ableton Live 10 on Win 7. As I have only dealt with either hardware or software specific questions directly related to Linux on this forum, I wasn't sure if anyone used Win specific software to make music, so mentioning wine was a way for me to...

Ableton Live 10 + Launchpads Pro + Launchpad Mini MK2.

I have noticed that there are a number of LM posters that have tried running Ableton using WINE and that have a Launchpad. Interestingly, I have to say that in my opinion, despite the many YouTube tutorials and Novation info, the quality of documentation isn't up to snuff for a first time user of Ab...

Re: Looking for DAW with strong notation editor on any OS.

I have been using MuseScore with Ardour with Jack synchro and it works. Could be easier if session was handled with more coherence and unity. I did not find an option to tell MuseScore not to create its Midi and Audio connexion. Thanks for your post. It took awhile, but I finally opted for Reaper a...

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I added the repo and updates. The different bits that match what I have in Slack/Studioware. Some are programs, some are plugins.

First time KXStudio user with apps not listed.

I have just installed the bits in KXStudio (fresh Linux Mint 18.3 64bit XFCE install with MultiArch ) that are comparable to Slackware64 14.2/Studioware. Notable exceptions that are listed on the KXStudio homepage, but are unavailable for me to install (Synaptic) include Cadence, Carla, Catia, Claud...

Re: Qmidi alternative for Linux?

I can't imagine why it wouldn't be recommended, it is still being developed, the devs have stated a few things that they are working on in the long term of the program... I think the operative phrase here is "without the necessary caveats". Again, according to the threads that I referred ...

Re: Qmidi alternative for Linux?

It hasn't been on hold since 2016 though but cool whatever. Search terms "renoise development 2016" gives threads with the title like "Is Renoise terminated?" or " Whats next for Renoise? " that includes talk of inconsistent API's between version changes, or if you sea...

Re: Qmidi alternative for Linux?

That's not entirely true, there was a bug fix update a few months ago. There are members of the development team active on the forum and they have stated that certain things have been worked on, such as hdpi support, so it is not dead. Taktik has never been very forthcoming and he has said that he ...
