Re: Terratec DMX 6Fire USB - how to configure in OpenSUSE 13
The installed module version with the 0.6.0 makefile is the same as the unmodified 0.6.1. The only difference is the installation procedure. I asked because if many people have problems using the new makefile, I will use the old one again. So please try again the 0.6.0 makefile and keep the version ...

Re: Terratec DMX 6Fire USB - how to configure in OpenSUSE 13
Concerning the path: could you please download sixfireusb-0.6.0 and copy the 'Makefile' into the folder of the sixfireusb-0.6.1 driver and run the installation procedure again and check whether the driver is ? This file has been updated by a request in the newest version but another user also report...

Re: Terratec DMX 6Fire USB - how to configure in OpenSUSE 13
You don't need to copy the driver to sound/usb/6fire; by convention external drivers go to the extra/ directory, there you also find the 6fire module. You can also find out about the version using the modinfo command. The kernel version doesn't have any version, the sourceforge driver has the same o...

Re: Terratec DMX 6Fire USB - how to configure in OpenSUSE 13
If you did not ever run comands like "make" you are using the kernel driver. Please go to sixfireusb.sourceforge.net and download the driver there (sixfireusb-0.6.1.tar.bz2). The instructions can be found in the INSTALL file. Without going into details, if you want to do more than just rec...

Re: Terratec DMX 6Fire USB - how to configure in OpenSUSE 13
Hi, I think that jack suits the card, I got good results using it. Are you using the driver from the kernel or did you install the driver from the sourceforge page? The last one is a more sophisticated version with some more features. Look at sixfireusb.sourceforge.net About HD recording: do you sim...

Re: A few questions
It looks like the installer doesn't install correctly. What you can do: - download the sixfireusb-0.6.0.tar.bz2 file (yes, this is an older version) - copy the file "Makefile" from this archive into the directory, where the sixfireusb-0.6.1 source resides - try again Please report whether ...

Re: A few questions
the INSTALL file in the archive should provide help. Here the order: download sixfireusb-0.6.1.tar.bz2 and unpack it, f.ex. into /tmp. On a terminal, enter: $ cd /tmp/sixfireusb-0.6.1 $ make $ sudo make kremove $ sudo make install If you get an error, ensure that the kernel headers are installed. af...

Re: A few questions
What also could be interesting for you is the fact, that you have to double the latency. You see this here (notice "buffer = 2 periods"): > configuring for 48000Hz, period = 32 frames (0.7 ms), buffer = 2 periods This is neccessary because of how the device works. So in fact you have a 22....

Re: A few questions
Which driver do you use? The one from the kernel or from the sourceforge page? Because mine even allows a period size of 32 frames (EDIT: which is 0.6.1 from the sourceforge page).

Re: A few questions
Hmm, this looks like a bug, because 256 frames should be possible...
Thanks for the report, I will have a look at the driver.

Re: A few questions
Ok, why cannot you go below 512 samples? What exactly happens if you select, let's say, 256 samples?

Re: A few questions
Hi krsn, to start at the beginning: the base of all sound drivers is alsa. pulseaudio and jack use alsa as their backend. So the best option is to use alsa immediately. In your case a destribution with pulseaudio should be avoided since pulseaudio integrates itself into the system very deeply. It ev...
