Confirm that the file is there and marked executable.

Re: MIDI Input on SooperLooper disappeared

I see that my participation in this forum is largely to serve as a warning for everyone. We can file this under "stupid pilot error for inexperienced developers". #1 pre-installed or officially installed packages tend to wind up in /usr/bin. #2 when you get package source, and build and install it, ...

MIDI Input on SooperLooper disappeared

Using Ubuntu Studio 19.10. vmpk and fluidsynth still show MIDI ports under QJackCtl's ALSA tab (where SooperLooper generally shows up). It was there a few days ago and while I've been messing with various things, I don't recall anything that obviously would have made this happen. Anyone seen this be...

Re: lets talk about apple mac

I know there is drumgizmo, hydrogen, avldrums and some others. They are not bad, but they are not what I would like to have. I don't want to spend time on searching for midi drum patterns or do them by myself. I want to plug my guitar in and tell my "drummer" play some rock in eights at 120 bpm. Al...

Re: The ideas of GNU/Linux

The Cathedral and the Bazaar by Eric S. Raymond: http://www.catb.org/~esr/writings/cathedral-bazaar/cathedral-bazaar/ Over the years I have wondered whether his insights can be applied to music making. Some people compose music in the Cathedral style, and others seem to work well in the Bazaar styl...

Re: lets talk about apple mac

Maybe my perspective is different from others, but to me one of the great things about Linux is that I can customize the way certain apps work. Generally this involves making things simpler and working well for a specific purpose that is important to me, as compared to things having so many features...

Hydrogen/SooperLooper hybrid

If you pay any attention to my posts, you may have noticed that I am all over the map. #1 I don't really know what I want, other than to eliminate things that don't work well for me #2 the journey is fun and sometimes I find the destination wasn't what I was after. I found that Hydrogen as JACK mast...

Re: I really tried to get decent audio out of the Raspberry Pi

Well, as usual I'm on to something else and set the Pi aside. But no, I could not make a correlation between xruns and glitches. I might try again some time in the future. At the moment I'm trying to figure out how to use this Pi with 7" LCD as an oscilloscope for my modular system. I'd use a cheapi...

Re: I really tried to get decent audio out of the Raspberry Pi

Other than Kodi or Retropie a GUI and the Pi don't mix if you ask me... Having said that, Kodi delivers good audio via HDMI. The all new Pi 4 maybe powerful enough for running a GUI and applications at the same time, but those micro-HDMI ports would irritate the hell out of me (and it cannot run Re...

I really tried to get decent audio out of the Raspberry Pi

Was using a Pi 3B model 1.2 or something along those lines. Just couldn't get rid of the audio glitching. First I tried Raspbian Buster, then I tried the Patchbox LL/RT OS and it didn't help enough. The bundled piano instrument demo sounded awful. I figured something must fundamentally be wrong with...

Re: Patchbox OS

What did I turn off? I turned off "WiFI hotspot" mode. It doesn't lock up any more. However now I can't get rid of the audio crackles. However, no XRUNs are reported. I'm at 256/3 48000 on the Jack settings (USB audio device). I am using the Pi's WiFi to connect to my LAN. Tell me if Ethernet is bet...

Re: Patchbox OS

Wish I had better news. Keeps locking up. I'm just running qjackctl and hydrogen. Had it going at one point with hydrogen synced to sooperlooper using JACK, but then it locked up. Has locked up about a half dozen times. Doesn't take much effort to make it happen. This is everything the same as when ...

Re: Pi 3, SooperLooper, and UMC-404HD audio interface

I finally got my UI mods to compile and run OK in SooperLooper. There are probably some loose ends because I commented a lot of code out, but so far so good. A few more things about the UI I would like to change: a) The "feedback" slider is linear. I think it would make more sense to be a logarithmi...

Re: Patchbox OS

I tried this last night. Preliminary results with SooperLooper on a Pi 3 are promising, though I was using the HDMI audio out for the test rather than USB audio. Thought I'd be tricky and add the kxStudio repos for Pi, but those want to be on Debian 10, not Debian 9 as the PatchboxOS is. So then, yo...

Re: Patchbox OS

Do you get xruns or glitches? I would just as soon try someone else's low latency RPi kernel before trying to build my own. What apps are you running? What are your JACK settings? I'm using SooperLooper at (JACK) buffer = 128, 3 periods, 44.1 or 48 kHz. Lots of glitching, fair number of xruns. Added...
