Re: Noise when playing bass through USB interface

I guess I hadn't tested with the laptop unplugged. I unplugged the laptop power and the sound is much clearer. Not 100% clean but better

Re: Noise when playing bass through USB interface

Thanks for the suggestions. The usb interface is bus powered so it is not plugged into any AC power source. My computer is a laptop and I get the noise even running off battery only. So I'm guessing that rules out ground loops.

How can I troubleshoot the polarity?

Noise when playing bass through USB interface

My set up: Debian Wheezy running Jack audio and Guitarix or Rakarrack Focusrite Scarlette 2i2 $20 Sony MDRZX100 headphones Muscian's Gear gold tipped instrument cable When I have everything plugged in and set up I hear a constant feedback/ground/humming kind of noise. When I play the bass it's not a...

Re: Recommend a new usb interface

I am considering the M-Audio M-Track and Focusrite 2i2. Anyone have any experience with either and confirm they will work out of the box? The Focusrite has 96k audio but I have read that it only does 48k in linux?

Recommend a new usb interface

Currently using a cheap piece of Chinese garbage from ebay. It works but it's only 44k and has a good amount of hiss and noise. It will be used 100% with my electric bass. I use Guitarix for silent practice at home and will do a little bit of recording in LMMS. I am running Debian Wheezy and I want ...

Re: Questions about using Debian

While your trying out Debian systems. I have my own little project. It comes with a basic music editor, and with the 64 bit system is comes with lmms, and the basic music editor. you can run it live via CD, or USB flash-drive. I prefer to run it with the flash drive with home persistence, that way ...

Any good bass amp emulators?

I play bass and have guitarix and rakarack on my laptop. Anyone know of any bass specific emulators or plug ins/presets for guitarix or rakarack.

Re: Help with a inexpensive usb bass interface

Just updating my experience. Actually ended up ordering the Behringer but it was back ordered for several weeks. Canceled it and bought a generic "Guitar Link" from Ebay for $10. Works great right out of the box with no set up or hassle. Looks exactly the same as the Behringer with no Behr...

Re: Questions about using Debian

Oh, hey! I just discovered that you can play YouTube videos in VLC also. I've been using VLC for podcasts, because it's easy to copy a url then in VLC just ctl-v to paste and it will play. With SMTube you have to use the search within the app to find videos. VLC doesn't come with Jack support thoug...

You can also use SMTube and configure Mplayer to use Jack https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MP ... CK_support then not have to use the alsa bridge for YouTube videos. VLC also has a Jack plugin. I hardly ever use the alsa bridge.
Cool, thanks for the tip!

Questions about using Debian

I've been testing different distros on my laptop. I use the laptop for many things not just music. For music I am mainly interested in using it as a practice rig for my bass with guitarix/rakarack and having another software to do some simple recordings of bass /drum machine. I've settled on Debian ...

Non of the C apps ever made it into any "official" debain/ubuntu repository. To use them, you need to enable the private ppa's of KxStudio.
Got it, thanks

Re: How do I use Guitarix and internal audio at the same tim

After playing around with KXStudio, I've decided I would just like to run Linux Mint on the laptop and install just the apps I use. I was having some weird performance issues with KXStudio. Is it possible to install Cadance on Linux Mint? I don't see it in the software center? Can I just apt-get ins...

Re: How do I use Guitarix and internal audio at the same tim

It seems like Jack takes over all the audio when its running. Yeah, that’s just how Jack works. You’ll need to use Jack Bridges (bottom right in Cadence ‘System' tab). If you’re using ALSA (which is the case if you’re testing the KXStudio ISO), select ‘ALSA->Loop->JACK’ under ‘Bridge Type’ in the ‘...
