Re: Sononym sample browser

Can't wait to try this, I've been waiting for it to be released for a while.

Re: Best synths?

phasex is very nice synth, one of, say, 5 my favorites. not pure subtractive or FM or wavetable, but hybrid. and how could happen no one mentioned bristol ? this is the very first softsynth on linux that i massively used. a bit quirky to use, but has very nice emulations of old classic machines fro...

Re: Academy Software Foundation: Hollywood relies on Open Source

In other words, the White doctor pictured above that's going to give an anal inspection to a scared Black guy is a friggingly insulting racist statement. No, it's really not. Should white doctors only be seen to be treating white patients? A male gynaecologist cannot treat a woman due to sexism? Se...

I would say there should/can only be chaos with modular and/or FM synthesis but even then if you have enough knowledge then nothing would be too unexpected.

Re: Best synths?

I've been enjoying Helm lately for making deep sub bass patches. I like that it is simple to use but can do some quite complex modulation. Zynaddsubfx is another I use often. I'm still trying to get used to the new UI and have been struggling a little with that. Zyn has a few quirks and bugs though ...

No, it's the usual formats as a plugin and a standalone/jack version.

Re: Differences between the individual operating systems

Protools I think official polls are quite good to create a ~neutral list. Evidentiary/source information would be good to avoid a dispute. But that's just my opinion. IMHO I am completely open to everything (useful). They are user polls, not evidence of industry standards. Look at the first one, th...

Re: Differences between the individual operating systems

Also, a quite serious guy told me he knew one of the first ableton live developpers and that ableton live was first developped for linux. Not sure I believe that. Robert Henke was the founder, I don't know how much actual development he put in to it but he and the team seemed very windows focused a...

Re: Former Proppelerheads Reason user looking for a workflow advice a.k.a Cannot into Linux Music Production

I used to use reason many years ago. There's nothing truly comparable in linux (or windows) but there are plenty of ways to make music. You can certainly do it all self contained with ardour. There are a lot of synths that have plugin versions, you just load them on a track, make sure it is record e...

Re: How long do you need to finish a song?

It's a pretty tricky question, I would echo Folderol's comment, I'm not sure they are ever finished. It's hard to tell how long one song takes. I usually write something in renoise and if it comes together well/quickly I send it to my singer and he records something, then I mix/edit the vocals in re...

Re: 44.1 kHz is slowly reaching its end

I know you have a victim complex but I have never been nasty to you. If you can't handle someone disagreeing with you and discussing why then I feel very sorry for you. Do you honestly think this is an appropriate way to act? I suggested that you provide some data instead of slinging mud at each oth...
