Re: Which free synth

I see. I thought I can replace the oscillator for my own recorded sounds. I don't mean loops but just noises from around my house.

You can do this with many modules in VCV Rack/Cardinal. Also check out Redux by Renoise, it's largely designed with this use case in mind.

Re: Which free synth

Not sure what you mean about samples. There are many incredible synths around. I like Vital, it is simple but very powerful and easy to use/see what's happening.

Very honourable alternatives:

Surge XT
Zynaddsubfx / Yoshimi
VCV Rack / Cardinal

How that de-activation works in that case? Or is single activation from your 3 activations lost permanently, meaning you can make 3 offline activations, and then you are done?

I'm not sure, I've never used it.

Re: Harrison Mixbus 11 has been released

It's not an unusual approach for commercial daws. Bitwig operates in the same way and that's pretty easy to deal with, you can manage the machines yourself so if you move to a new computer you just remove the old one from your account. Bitwig has some 'call home' mechanism, which is not nice becaus...

Re: Harrison Mixbus 11 has been released

Yep. They probably didn't realize this when they devised this ridiculous copy protection scheme. Considering that the amount of Linuxers using Mixbus is small, in comparison to other OS-es, chances are small that they'll change their ways. It's not an unusual approach for commercial daws. Bitwig op...

Re: Harrison Mixbus 11 has been released

Thank you for mentioning this. This is an important change that I might have missed otherwise. (I had just reinstalled Linux and haven't gotten around to installing Mixbus 11 yet -- which turned out to be a good thing, because I'm not sure I have settled on a distro.) The new licensing scheme is ba...

Re: Sequencer with support for Launchpad Mini MKIII

DrivenbyMoss supports it in bitwig and reaper - https://www.mossgrabers.de (and definitely does sequencing rather than just clips). Failing that, there are tools around so you can set up something yourself. I think I've used https://github.com/agraef/midizap for this before with a different launchpad.

Re: Headphones for HP ZBook

I would recommend Sennheiser HD 560S. I think they sound really good and I've been very pleasantly surprised with how well mixes translate when I use them for that.

Re: moving .lv2, .vst, .vst3 to new computer

Should be fine for most of them.

edit to add: when I say most of them, the only exception would be any that have stuff installed in /opt (like the audio assault plugins) or in /usr/local but you'd probably know about those if you installed them yourself into ~/.vst etc.

I'm using pretty much the same version of everything except I am using kwin with wayland rather than sway. Voxengo Span resizes for me so it might well be Sway.

Re: Modular synthesizer & Cardial vs. VCV Rack

a disadvantage with either product. is one cannot have module groups. a module where "inlet" and "outlet" is created and modules are connected together. then could be saved and reused. I'm not sure about Cardinal but you can definitely have groups of modules in VCV which you can...

Re: Modular synthesizer & Cardial vs. VCV Rack

Thank you all a lot for your replies! There is also Bespokesynth and puredata (and the various versions of it), and sunvox. I wonder, after all these important information, if it is possible to tell which is the most interesting synth between all these (Cardinal, VCV Rack, Bespokesynth, Puredata, S...

Re: Modular synthesizer & Cardial vs. VCV Rack

It seem to me that a modular synthesizer gives more possibilities than a no-modular one, but it is more difficult to use. Is this true ? It can be more difficult to use because a regular synth has all the connections pre-made and is the equivalent of well selected modules which work well together. ...
