Zero tracktion on youtube...

Post by OccinticLady »

Hi all,
It's been a (way too long) while since I showed in.
I needed to dive deeper into my craft...
So, my latest vid has been up about a week...yet zero clicks...safe for the one I did to check the quality...
However...I use an adblocker on youtube. Had a nag screen a few times. It's more o' less around that time that my vids got stuck in the pipes, so to speak.
Does the one include the other?
It's weird. I dont get it.
Anyone has the same feeling?
Thanks
Melissa

Where did you advertise it? How many subscribers do you have?

On my channel ( @melissarainchild ) - I have 64 subscribers.
Normally, I'd have at least some traction, even if just a few seconds view...
Weird...

Set to public and visible.
Just saw ONE extra click (maybe not a view)...
Did take Premium (I was planning on that, things just got put in fast-forward) though...just because I do use Youtube a lot...
We'll see. I was just wondering if Youtube somehow throttles videos of non-Premium accounts...
I would honestly not put it past them...

I have around 50 subscribers on Patreon, these are people who are paying me to put out videos for them. The last one I put out only has 4 views. So no views with 64 subscribers doesn't surprise me.

For my public videos I have around 1.2k YouTube subscribers and on average I'll get 200 views on a video after 6 months, so not a lot. There are lots of videos competing for the attention of your subscribers.

For example I use subscriptions to channels as bookmarks. I don't use youtube regularily, and nearly never watch something youtube recommends. Instead I am looking for something particular, and it can be that I start to browse if channel I have subscribed would have suitable information.

Youtube now blocks me from seeing anything unless I turn off my adblocker or buy Premium. It started with a closable pop up but now just replaces the video with a notice. It only does it when I am logged in though. People's experiences are varying, I know some who have the same and some who haven't had a single notice. Don't know how relevant it is to you but I am sure it's stopped some people using the site.

Well, we've all been pampered way too long...if I use something online (be that SL, Runescape, a singing app or such)...I start to pay for it, if it is a site I bump into once in a while, then I dont...
Youtube is pretty much central, it's my output channel.
And, thinking of that, I may need to think about other outputs...

Youtube is less pampering me and more giving me a vehicle to waste time I should be doing other things with.

I use ublock origin on Firefox, no issues here.

Same here, it doesn't seem as simple as just use this or that adblocker. The only thing I've found to completely get round is to not be logged in. Which makes me think they are using some technique you have to agree to in the ToS and also this is going to be a precursor for some/a lot/all videos only being viewable to those logged in.

I'm logged in and I don't see any ads...

People were seeing it weeks before I did and some people still aren't. Your time will come, I guess.

Rick Beato, a producer and educator, with a successful youtube channel, discusses the 'getting heard' issue quite often,
the gist of his findings, gleaned from a host of industry insiders, famous music icons, and commoners on the rise, is roughly this:
The submitter must be active and current, and post on all the biggest social media platforms, providing
consistent and quality info, updates, and content, which must point to a well presented website,
where the content and any salable items are super easy to access.

It is the interplay of social media members finding and enjoying your productions, who begin cross-referencing
what they like, that builds the view totals on each of those systems: X, Instagram, Meta/Facebook, Youtube, toktik etc
whose members then can rely on your shiny friendly updated website.

...and if one uses Distrokid* as a distributor, they release to Spotify and a couple dozen other streaming sites
and name-brand shops, where your releases will be available, awaiting discovery. Spotify provide a range of methods
for members to self promote. If your music competes well, it will trickle out to the social media, and the cross-referencing
might take hold, with views/listens accumulating.

*All this takes time, some money, and likely some teamwork, and the willingness to relentlessly self-promote.
As a promoter, kindness, respect, and a sincere interest in people, will be fundamental. Having a business card,
with links, and CD's to hand out, is good locally. Many people have CD players in their cars, even if streaming-only
at home. Mi dos centavos
Cheers
