Re: Impossible getting USB MIDI keyboard working on LINUXSAM
After play with Ardour, Qsampler and MIDI keyboard, i found that i can't play MIDI while Ardour tracks are sounding,if i stop tracks in ardour, midi sound comes back again. I tried in Edit/preferences/audio/monitoring, selecting Ardour like option...no luck...i' missing something...

Re: Impossible getting USB MIDI keyboard working on LINUXSAMPLER
Umm... I'm having the same problem, as I wish to get VST-like sounds for all band and wind instruments to Ardour. I'm adding a midi track in Ardour, with LInuxsampler as plugin and running Qsampler. I have a midi keyboard attached via USB, seeing midi activity on the track input, but no sound. I set the input connections to the track to take in my keyboard to midi track input but the track output says disconnected. I don't know how to check if the keyboard is sending the same channel as Qsampler is listening to and don't know how to setup midi in qsampler window. Instructions that I find refer to qjackctl but I'm running kxstudio and Catia does not show Linuxsampler connections even when Qsampler is running. There is only Ardour and my devices. Someone help? I understand I am asking rudimentary questions but I'm trying to get to music, and past the tech. Thanks for any answers that do not include programming tips

First I would recommend reading some background material on Jack and linux audio which you can find here: http://libremusicproduction.com/article ... arted-jack and http://libremusicproduction.com/tutoria ... m-together.
Several misc points:
o You can configure qsampler to trigger on any midi channel - there is a pull-down menu for this in the panel where you load the sample. Of course you can use some midi-dump program to check what you keyboard is sending (which is likely to be channel 1). I tend to use pianoteq for this, kstudio also has midisnoop.
o On cadence make sure to start the alsa midi bridge so your USB keyboard will show up in catia.
o On an Ardour midi track there is a keyboard shown if you make the track wide enough. You can click the keys to play notes which checks if you sample is loaded and which checks that the channel outputs are connected to the main bus and ultimately your audio out so you can hear it.
o Make sure the round button with a midi connector image on the top of an Ardour midi track is clicked to green which allows the midi signal through. Of course you need to set the input to the midi track to be your USB keyboard.
5. On kxstudio it is also possible to use qjackctl if you prefer that.
