ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instruments
I recently installed Ubuntu Studio 14.04. I installed Rosegarden and couldn't get the ZynAddSubFX plugin to load in it until I installed the kxstudio packages. Now the plugin is available, but when I choose an instrument, I don't get the correct sound -- everything seems to be either a sine wave generator or one of the string pads. A few of the instruments near the end of the list work, but the rest don't.
If I run the standalone ZynAddSubFx program, the instrument bank selects the correct instruments, so the problem seems to be with the plugin or the way Rosegarden interacts with it.
How can I fix this? Thanks!

Rosegarden can't load LV2, only DSSI and LADSPA. As far as I remember the DSSI-version of ZynAddSubFX lacks one of the sound producing engines (padsynth/wavetables).
So you have to use either the standalone version (ZynAddSubFX or Yoshimi) or load the LV2-version in a plugin host or use Carla standalone with its builtin ZynAddSubFX.

Thanks for the response!
Is this a new development? Just a few weeks ago I was using ZynAddSubFX in Rosegarden in Ubuntu Studio 12.04, and it worked just fine. And the presets I was using (and therefore was trying to use again) are not ones that use PADSynth, if that is relevant.

I don't know but I noticed one of my old songs that loads whysynth doesn't switch to the correct whysynth patch. Coincidence oder bug in newer Rosegardens?meinfretur wrote:Thanks for the response!

You should report your problem on the Rosegarden users mailing list:

I don't think I've ever seen that bug reported. If that's the case, that's a pretty critical bug with a reasonably easy fix.bluebell wrote:As far as I remember the DSSI-version of ZynAddSubFX lacks one of the sound producing engines (padsynth/wavetables).
I do fairly light testing on the DSSI version, so it's not impossible that something like this has gotten past me. Can you replicate this issue?

Never mind if it's not the case. It must be years ago when I tried this.

Re: ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instrum
I found that the problem remains when I build Rosegarden myself. Interestingly, zynaddsubfx-dssi as installed from Ubuntu Studio doesn't show up in Rosegarden at all; only the kxstudio version does (but gives me the error). Is there a way to compile the zynaddsubfx-dssi plugin myself?

Just grab a copy of the zynaddsubfx source and deps and as long as you have the dssi libs/headers installed it should build the plugin along with the standalone.

Re: ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instrum
Did this get fixed? Tried for a while to compile zynaddsubfx and kept getting errors, but then today I noticed there was a new package called zynaddsubfx-dssi-git available from KXStudio and installed it instead of zynaddsubfx-dssi, and the plugin works great now!
Re: ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instruments
Hi everyone,
I hope this is the right place to post this message; apologies in advance. I'm running Rosegarden with a bunch of dssi plugins; amsynth, whysynth, hexter etc.. I have installed the zynaddsubfx dssi but it doesn't appear in Rosegarden's plugin list. Zyn actually works if I start it as a stand alone synth but it's a heck of a lot easier to have it available as a plugin. Any advice welcome as to how I might convince Rosegarden to list Zyn.
