Absolute beginner to Linux - Puppy Studio RT?

Hi,

First post here, glad to see this community!

I want to use the new laptop I'm getting, to run a Linux-based DAW for performing (loop-based performing; MIDI guitar - sampling, synths; and electric guitar processing), recording, and sequencing. I'm completely new to Linux, but am intrigued by the benefits and want to run it as my primary DAW.

I was thinking of running Puppy Studio 3.3 RT. (http://puppystudio.tiddlyspot.com/)

A few questions -
1. Is this distribution ideal for a beginner? (i.e. not too complicated to install and set up.)
2. If not, what distribution should I be going for? (Arch Linux, AV Linux, Tango Studio, Remix OS seem to be other contenders)
3. I'll also need to set up internet using a USB wireless modem - will that be supported?
4. Any other suggestions/words of caution for a newbie?

You should try many different ones, and keep 0Sex or windows, until you have settled in.
Do your test installs on an external usb/firewire drive, or usbstick, after using the live cd/dvd versions.
Be prepared to trade/sell what you have, for what will work. Linux kernels are not equal,
so one may support your hardware better than another. With few exceptions, the software
can be found and made to work on any linux you choose. So internet connection is the first
priority. If using a live cd/dvd, and you can't connect, you can still install software for that session
to help. Use google and search your modem/ethernet/motherboard-chipset for signs of
success/failure. You can produce audio on a net-free computer, many windows users insist on
that, virus parasites being the common threat they dread.

So far the journey hasn't been too smooth - installed Ubuntu LL, it didn't run my wireless USB modem too well. Uninstalled it and boom, Win7 never boots again ('GRUB error, no such partition'; I think it might have had something to do with the fact that I chose to Wubi-install...). Reinstalled Win7. Now about to try AVLinux...somehow, UNetbootin doesn't seem to detect an external hard disk I'm trying to install it on.

Hi,

Unetbootin is for copying and booting an ISO from a USB Key. There are detailed instruction on putting AV Linux on a USB Key in the AV Linux manual found on the Desktop when running the AV Linux LiveDVD.
