Ubuntu PPA for *all* Linux Multimedia stuff

Postby falkTX » Sat Jan 09, 2010 3:27 pm

Hi there community!

My name is "Filipe Coelho", I'm from Portugal and this is my first post here.
I'm a python/pyqt programer (I also know some C, and I'm learning C++).
I really like Linux and I'm looking to drop Windows for real when the next Ubuntu version will be released (end of April 2010).

At first I started packaging some basic stuff, then sent it to REVU (Ubuntu packages "reviewing" system, for non-official Ubuntu devs like me)
But it takes a long time to get a package accepted, and we are only 3 months away (and some days) from the final release...

So I decided to create a PPA and build the packages there.
The PPA location is: https://launchpad.net/~falk-t-j/+archive/lucid/
If you're in Lucid already you can install it by running:
Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:falk-t-j/lucid

Check the PPA link for other PPAs (artwork, bleeding-edge stuff and games)

Currently I need testers (to see which packages are broken, missing functionality, etc).
I also need to know more [good] applications out there, so I can package them too.

Jack2 is in the PPA, replacing the "old" Jack.

You HAVE my permission to do whatever you want with these packages (download, use, copy, edit, re-upload, etc).

I hope my work will be useful in some way.
Thanks for this good community!

Not sure this is the right place to post news but the official website is not ready yet...

1st, Jack2 now replaces normal Jack. It is build with both "--classic" and "--dbus".
There were some ports from Debian unstable (2mandvd, 3gpwiz, bombono-dvd, Cinelerra) and kdenlive builds now.

I'll keep packaging more apps and updating from SVN/git until the Ubuntu 10.04 Beta arrives.
At that time, no more unstable updates are made, and I'll check every package to make sure it gets all features and it works without crashing.
If an application still crashes a lot at this time, it will be removed from the PPA.

Hi Filipe!

Your PPA is promising!

I have a wishlist with some packages I use and there are not in your PPA nor in karmic repos, afaik (I haven't checked lucid repos).

chordii
[Am]I some[C]times write [G]songs with chor[G]dii.

klick, gtklick and klick2ardour.py
Dominique has a PPA but gtklick is missing.
IMHO, gtklick is the best metronome for Linux. No, wait, klick is better :)

playitslowly
The way in between rubberband-cli and audacity for tempo and speed changes. So simple and useful.

tuneit
A wonderful CLI tuner

Last jack_capture (0.9.40 today) (http://old.notam02.no/arkiv/src/?M=D)
I don't know if it is my fault but jack_capture <= 0.9.39 didn't work with jack2 in my computer.

Rakarrack
THE guitar rack.

Thank you! Pablo

Thanks for the list, I'll check it as soon as possible.

What do you guys think about lash 0.5.4 vs. 0.6.0 Beta 2?
I'm not sure about it, but I'm thinking on upload the 0.6 beta to the main PPA. It seems stable for me.

I think we need an debian package for openoctave midi, which doesn't conflict with Rosegarden if possible..

http://www.openoctave.org/downloads/oomidi

Would be nice

Cool

I can build it from source on Debian after installing kdelibs4-dev, maybe that's useful info.

This guy maintains his packages also in git. Which makes it more easy to be used by other projects afaik. Debian and Ubuntu multimedia package teams also use git.

see also: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=817 for info about quality packaging.

edit: still QT3 AFAIK

Thanks for the PPA link. Pre-made debian sources are always welcome.

I have kde3-style-qtcurve on the PPA, and I recommend using it with OOMidi (QtCurve is the best Qt3 theme I found so far).

Expect the packages to be ready soon.
The only problem now is that I can't get the source code, their git host is offline

Isn't it an idea for you to also use github?

Nice, hope it is online again soon.

Thanks. I'll see if I get them rebuilded on debian here.

I packaged all LV2 plugins I could find. Here's the list:
1 - eq10-lv2plugin [broken for now]
2 - linuxsampler (compiled with LV2 support)
3 - ll-plugins
4 - lv2fil
5 - lv2vocoder
6 - mda-lv2
7 - psycho-bass
8 - shimmer-lv2
9 - ssg
10 - swh-lv2
11 - visual-compressor
12 - calf-plugins (also git version is in the unstable PPA)

For hosts we got:
1 - Ardour (also with VST)
2 - QTractor
3 - ZynJackU/LV2Rack

If you found one that is not in the list, please tell me
