Re: Beat making applications for Linux.

Hydrogen is pretty much the closest thing to fl studio in the step sequencing layout triggering samples. No one here is really going to have your answer until you try all of them out. You may find that its easier just to spend a bit of money on something like renoise / or even bitwig compared to the...

Re: Bitwig 1.0 is out!

Bitwig is the one-stop suite with all you need on board that many people missed in Linux My point isn't saying bitwig isn't great, it is great. My point is the model to make people aware of it's potential. Of course people are aware of it being released, but not of it's real potential. I guess you ...

Re: Bitwig 1.0 is out!

THing is how many linux users are willing to shell out 400 big ones, when their paid options are renoise, ardour and energy xt which are pretty much about quarterthe price. Renoise has amazing routing and modulating features and although it's tracker based, it's very fun and inspiring to use.. (i've...

Re: Bitwig 1.0 is out!

I downloaded and gave it a try. I'm a hardcore reaper user, i tried my hand at linux but i didn't have the time to sit and learn how linux works to really get the best out of it. The reason i never used ableton is because it crashes everytime i use it within 5 minutes.. I dont used cracked version e...

Re: Any Suse/Rosegarden/MOX8 tutors?

The mox sequencer is actually very good on its own... You basically create patterns then arrange those patterns .. Via step editing or live ... I'm a mpc head and sequence and arrange in loops and I find the mox style of sequencing really powerful to use.The mox line for value for money is actually ...

Re: wineasio sound quality, and distro's.. what's the diff?

.. summing is the process of adding together.. adding 2 or more tracks together .in a daw it sums to a 2 track stereo mix. It is still a data format. wineasio or asio , is the protocol that is suppose to deliver the sound data back and forth between the music app and the hardware(soundcard) bypassin...

Re: ardour: tracks vs busses?

i guess the most common usage would be to use a bus as a group.. (tracks 1 to 4 route to a bus) in which you can then add effects(mostly dynamics like compressors and els but not limited to that) to that bus.. i think to tell the difference is what is inputting into it.. tracks can input into a bus....

Pandaboard as a mini fluidsynth sampler

I was bored surfing and some how stumbled across this.. http://pandaboard.org/ I got interested in it since of its small size and the arch arm linux support. And it got me thinking, 2 make a dedicated fluid synth player.. You basically load your linux os on sd card and it boots up from there.. check...

Re: renoise the ableton alternative on linux

i absolutley despise ableton.. It's clunky and crashes almost every time i've opened and tried to use it. Renoise is damn good.. I've never use a tracker style daw before and didn't really have any issues learning it. Quick learning curve for me. I haven't purchased it yet.. But will.. bitwig http:/...

Re: hip hop / making beats

Yeah I avoided trying out renoise because of the tracker thing, but the difference really is that it scrolls down instead of left to right... (imagine lmms or fruity loops but the step sequencer is vertical) The way it handles samples and instruments is kinda awkward at first... you have your sample...

Re: hip hop / making beats

Had a look at renoise.. If you make hiphop(or any sample manipulation based music) or want to on the linux platform This is definately the one. the slicer that is built in is really good. Slices are mapped(midi notes) as you slice.. Once you learn the short cuts, its actually really fast and a great...

Re: Harrison Mixbus is now available for Linux

Before i comment, i'd just like to say that i've come from a background of using windows and osx.. AS a musician, paying for the tools you use ie instruments, mic pres , hardware,Software. is just what it is.. Because after all, i charge my clients for for my time and knowledge.. Sure when my client...

Re: hip hop / making beats

I just had a quick squiz at renoise website... Has a new slicer tool built in(not free.. But only 58 euro) Exactly like free cycle/recycle/fruity slicer.. Each slice is auto mapped to midi notes... has adsr (not sure if its each slice separate of for the whole sliced pgm) If you have 58 euro.. I'd d...
